BAR's Rainbow BBG #2069 Partners with Bloomingdale’s to Stand Up to Violence Against Women
On Sunday, April 12, 2015, Rainbow BBG #2069 of BBYO Big Apple Region partnered with Bloomingdale’s in New York to raise awareness and break the cycle of violence against women through philanthropy as part of Girls Achieve Grapeness, a BBYO Stand UP campaign that BBYO and Jewish Women International (JWI) have collaborated on throughout the year. In just a few hours, the BBGs raised nearly $2,000 to support their BBYO Stand UP cause during “A Beautiful Day with BBYO!” at Bloomingdale’s. Funds raised reflect 10% of all in-store sales earmarked for this initiative.
During the event, patrons were treated to makeovers from WHO? and visited BBYO’s station in the store to learn about Girls Achieve Grapeness and other ways BBYO provides outlets for Jewish teens to learn, lead and serve the world together year-round.
“It took our chapter a while to decide what event we wanted to do; we knew we had such a great opportunity and we did not want to waste it. We brainstormed this program and determined that this would be a perfect way to recruit new members and raise money for our BBYO Stand UP cause,” said Chloe Fishbein, N’siah of Rainbow BBG. “Members, both new and old, were able to come to Bloomingdales to get a makeover, enjoy snacks and socialize with their friends all while supporting Girls Achieve Grapeness. It could not have gone better.”
What began with a custom shade of OPI nail polish has become a movement. Across North America, BBGs are working with JWI to fundraise so that girls and young women become safe and independent. Girls who are empowered to realize their full potential grow into strong women – women who are far less likely to become victims of relationship abuse.
“We had an amazing day full of fun, charity, and of course BBYO! I know I can’t think of any other day better spent! This event was so successful for my chapter and I encourage other chapters to try an event like this too.”
