Happy Hanukkah from BBYO

On behalf of the BBYO community, I want to wish you and your family a Happy Hanukkah. During this festival of lights, tens of thousands of teens will celebrate Hanukkah at BBYO events across North America. As we light candles each night, we recall the miracle of Hanukkah and the story of triumph in the face of uncertainty.

Every day at BBYO we witness teens exploring and celebrating their Jewish heritage. Much like the Macabees, we expect that their faith and conviction will be a light unto the Jewish people and the world. They are our hope and inspiration. Thank you for being a member of the BBYO family.

Chag Urim Sameach
Enjoy the Festival of Lights

Executive Director, BBYO International

From the Regional Staff

Shalom and welcome to the December edition of our monthly eNews.

Earlier this month, 50 members from 4 Toronto-area chapters descended on the Four Points Hotel in Mississauga's west-end for a weekend of chapter competitions at Tournies Convention 2011. Through a jam-packed itinerary of team-building, athletics, creativity, and skills, Chapter L'Chaim BBG #2444 emerged victorious. Additional highlights included meaningful teen-led Shabbat services and a beautiful poolside Havdalah, powerful AZA/BBG Separates programs and very productive Business Meetings.

To view photos from Tournies Convention (and many other events), please click here.

With Tournies Convention behind us, several more exciting regional events are in the works:

For a full list of upcoming regional events for the 2011-2012 program year, click here.

And of course, local chapters continue to meet every Wednesday from 6pm to 8pm, in Toronto at the Prosserman JCC (Room 1-23) and in Vaughan at Dufferin Clark Community Centre (Room 5). Please note there are no chapter meetings December 28 and January 4 due to winter vacation. Weekly meetings resume January 11.

If you have any questions about anything in this eNews or would just like to chat, please be in touch! We can most easily be reached at 416.398.2004 or info@bbyo.ca.

Seeking Parents for Committee

We're looking for parents, friends & alumni to join the planning committee for our 18th annual Golf Tournament, taking place Tuesday July 17th at Nobleton Lakes Golf Club.

Each year, our golf tournament raises vital funds that enable BBYO to continue providing Toronto-area teens with fun, meaningful & affordable Jewish experiences.

If you're interested in joining the planning committee, please contact Kevin Goodman at kgoodman@bbyo.ca.

Exciting BBYO Connect Events for Grades 6-8

Next up for Grades 6-8, BBYO Connect presents Krav Maga Israeli Self Defense, Sunday January 15th. Details coming soon.

To view photos from past events, click here.

BBYO Connect is the BBYO experience made just for students in grades 6 to 8. At this crucial age, our programs bridge the gap between Bar/Bat Mitzvah and high school. We offer fun, meaningful and affordable experiences that will serve as a gateway to continued involvement in Jewish life.

With close to 50 kids at each event, BBYO Connect provides a positive experience where middle schoolers can get together with camp, school and synagogue friends as well as meet new friends from across the city.

If you know any students in grades 6-8 who may be interested in our programs, please send their contact information to Jessie Greenspan at jgreenspan@bbyo.ca.
