MIT AIT LTI

January 28-30Special track for experienced teens

First regional weekend of 2011, and 8th graders can attend!!! This program will be split into tracks: MIT AIT (New Members weekend) and LTI (Leadership Training Institute). Participants will learn BBYO and leadership fundamentals at this weekend.

Things you can look forward to: a special visit from the Grand Aleph Godol, BBYO's International teen president; a speaker from the Orlando Magic staff; an AEPi representative; inductions for new members and some super fun bonding programs!

NFR Highlights

The Search for StrikesHerzl and L'chaim Bowling
57 Teens from Sarasota, Tampa, Orlando and Melbourne came together for our December bowling event. Despite the rain out of our scavenger hunt, teens met new friends, had a blast in the arcade and showed off their bowling moves. You Planned It...NFR Chapter Highlights

BBG Shabbat- L'chaim and Waldflowers
Each of these chapters hosted a BBG Shabbat. The Waldflowers did services and had several guest BBGs from the Orlando BBYO chapters. L'chaim discussed their personal and Jewish values in relation to tattoos. The theme for this year's BBG Shabbat was Strength and Dignity are Our Clothing.

Herzl- Field Day
South Orlando teens extended an invitation to their neighbors at SOJC as they programmed in the fold of Athletics. The teens painted t-shirts to designate teams!

Ilan Ramon Bowling
This chapter is not messing around, they even had a training workout on the calendar to prep for the regional event!

Rebels and Waldflowers Chanukah PartyCandy Menorah
Thirty teens ate latkes and sufganiot, made candy Chanukah art, simulated the Maccabees guerrilla warfare, played dreidel and Chanukah clay-pictionary on the 4th night of the Festival of Lights!

Rebels Elections
Congratulations to the new board and thanks for all your hard work outgoing officers! Godol- Jonathan Knudsen, S'gan-Evan Ludin, Moreh-Derek Silver, Mazkir- Joe Shader, Shaliach- Andrew Greenberg.

L'chaim iBBYO
A series of fun activities with personal reflection components. Music, Ultimate Frisbee and thoughtful reflection make for an awesome bonding event!

L'chaim Chanukah Party
Teens volunteered at a community interfaith Chanukah program.

  • Panim el Panim: Receive advocacy training, participate in service learning and have the opportunity to lobby your elected officials on Capitol Hill -- all in a few days!
  • Double Impact Scholarship: Earn a 50 percent scholarship towards the tuition of a domestic Summer of Impact experience and 25 percent towards Impact: Israel by performing 60 hours of community service during the school year!

 

BBYO Teen on MTV Season Finale

Find Out What Wish Came True for an AZA Teen: Watch an interview with Lucas Lendenbaum sharing his experience as a featured guest on the season finale of MTV’s “The Buried Life.”

Last spring the four young stars of MTV’s documentary “The Buried Life” spoke at BBYO’s East Coast Kallah Convention. Their message reflected the focus of their television series which features their attempts to live out their dreams today and not get buried in the typical paths most people take in life, while at the same time recognizing the importance of giving back and helping to make dreams come true for the people they meet along the way.  Before wrapping up their remarks at Kallah, they opened up a question to the crowd of 450 teens asking them, “If you could do one thing before you die, what would it be?”

Lucas Lendenbaum, 16, of Gaithersburg, MD walked onto to the stage, took the microphone and with one brief and emotional sentence stated his wish: "My Dad doesn't have a home, and I just want him to have a home."Six months later, the cast from “The Buried Life” decided to make Lucas’s wish part of their season finale episode on November 29. Immediately following the show BBYO aired a live webcast with Lucas, allowing BBYO teens from around the world to ask him questions and hear his reflections on the experience and what it has meant to his family.
