There are also several International initiatives coming up that we will celebrate in our community like AZA and BBG Global Shabbat and Speak UP Week. AZA and BBG Global Shabbat

On November 8-9, 2013, join us for AZA and BBG Global Shabbat as teens from all over the world celebrate Judaism's most holy tradition simultaneously worldwide. All AZA and BBG Global Shabbat celebrations will be centered on the same theme; for boys in AZA chapters, the theme is "If you will it, it is no dream" and for girls in BBG chapters, the theme is "We Stand Together, One Nation, One Home."

In BBYO NoVA Council, teens will plan our local experience under the leadership of the council board and our BBG and AZA Shabbat Chairs, sophomore Lindsey Lozoskie of Haganah BBG and freshman Allan Cate of Liviu Librescu AZA.

Be on the lookout for registration information regarding this very special weekend.

Advisor Spotlight

This month, we'd like to celebrate siblings Matt and Kara Frank for their unwavering dedication to BBYO NoVA Council. Matt and Kara were both members of BBYO Eastern Region: Virginia Beach Council in high school and served on their respective regional boards.

Matt has been a volunteer for BBYO NoVA since 2011 and has assisted both Julius Bisno AZA and Liviu Librescu AZA in enhancing their programming and leadership skills. Matt has previously worked with Jewish teens and young adults in Tidewater, VA, Houston, TX and St. Louis, MO. He is currently working at George Mason University as a Scheduling Manager.

Kara joined Matt in Northern Virginia after graduating from James Madison University and currently works as an Assistant Account Executive at Adfero Group in Washington, DC. Kara is a lifetime member of Kruger BBG and served as Virginia Beach Council N'siah her senior year. She is currently in her second year as an advisor for Lahat BBG and loves getting to give back to an organization that gave her so much in high school.

Kara and Matt enjoy getting to spend extra time together through BBYO. As Matt explains, "Being active in BBYO is a family tradition for my sister and me, and advising allows us to continue that tradition as adults. The organization provided us a second home as teens and it is great to create that same feeling for current members."
