Katz JCC

50 Years: Strong as Ever!

A special celebration to benefit South Jersey Region BBYO.

Honoring former SJR BBYO Regional Directors Alan Goldberg, Aaron Greenberg, and John Matz.

D'var Torah

One day, Honi the Circle Maker was walking on the road and saw a man planting a carob tree. Honi asked the man, "How long will it take for this tree to bear fruit?"

The man replied, "Seventy years."

Honi then asked the man, "And do you think you will live another seventy years and eat the fruit of this tree?"

The man answered, "Perhaps not. However, when I was born into this world, I found many carob trees planted by my father and grandfather. Just as they planted trees for me, I am planting trees for my children and grandchildren so they will be able to eat the fruit of these trees." (Talmud, Tractate Ta'anit 23a)

We are all planting "seeds" and leaving our legacy for future generations.  What seeds are you planting?

Happy Tu B'Shevat, the Jewish New Year of Trees!

BBYO Teens Lead Campaign to End Bullying

Three Major International Jewish Youth Movements Join Forces to End Bullying and Support for LGBTQ Teens

Jewish teenagers from the major International Jewish Youth Movements are taking on bullying and standing up for their lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer peers. In addition to publicly committing to end bullying and creating an inclusive environment in their own movements, the Coalition of Jewish Teen Leaders, (the presidents of the International Jewish Youth Movements) has set a goal of getting 18,000 Jews to sign Keshet’s “Jewish Community Pledge to Save Lives”. This goal has been echoed by the executive leadership of the movements and their staff.
