Tori Weiner's BBYO Summer Reflection

This summer, Tori Weiner attended BBYO International Leadership Training Conference (ILTC). Read on to share her experience.

Imagine sitting in a camp dining hall with 30 of your best friends from the preceding summer, as well as 200 strangers, and knowing this is where you belong. That’s how it was at Perlman Camp at International Leadership Training Conference (ILTC).

Throughout ILTC, I learned about BBYO, my old & new friends, but mostly about myself.

All 225 participants were broken into smaller groups that met almost daily to learn a myriad of leadership and life skills.

We created a KMR Business Plan, specifically laying out how we wanted to improve our region. Rachel Stein, Natalie Jaffe, Jeremy Witchel, Lindsay Gorby, Rena Ferrara, and I worked hard to forge a plan. Ours chosen as one of the top six, meaning that we presented it for our ILTC friends and BBYO executives. We were so proud that KMR’s presentation and business plan won, which means a $500 scholarship for next year’s ILTC participants.

In addition to the BBYO work, ILTC had the same fun times that any summer camp has. From Color Wars, to stargazing by Lake Como, to singing and dancing our hearts out at Shira and Rikkudim, ILTC was certainly an experience I will never, ever forget!

Advisor Spotlight

This month, we'd like to celebrate Stuart Cohen for his unwavering dedication to BBYO Keystone Mountain Region. Stu has been the advisor of David Iszauk AZA (DI) in the South Hills for a year. During his tenure, Stu has been very involved with the chapter and helped to organize housing for Tournies. Stu met his wife Rachel through BBYO.

She invited me to a Sadie Hawkins dance. I was in Monroe AZA and she was in Dayenu BBG. We met again after college when I was working for the JCC and started dating; and the rest is history. Stu and Rachel have been married for 18 years and have three boys, two of which will be active in KMR this year. By day, Stu is the Vice President of John V. Heineman Company. He is also an avid Pirates fan.

In addition to Stu, I'd also like to take this time to introduce Andi Perelman and Eric Rudel as the advisors for Dayenu BBG and L'Chaim AZA respectively. Andi is currently working in both marketing and social media for Pittsburgh sports teams, which includes writing for the Pens Nation hockey blog, a credentialed blog for the Pittsburgh Penguins. Eric is in his first year at Duquesne Law School. Both Andi and Eric are alums of their respective chapters.
