Shalom and welcome to the February edition of our monthly e-news! After a fabulous Beauheart Weekend at which Amanda F. of chapter L'chaim was appointed Regional Sweetheart and Josh M. of chapter Magen was appointed Regional Beau, plans are well underway for a wide range of upcoming regional programs:

  • Sat. March 19 - Purim Bash Dance-a-thon. Keep an eye on our website. Registration opens in late February.
  • Sun. April 10 - J-Serve: The Global Day of Jewish Youth Service. BBYO will bring together 400+ Toronto-area teens to participate in this simultaneous global day of community service.
  • May 13-15 - Spring Regional Convention. Save the date for the most highly-anticipated convention of the year, featuring a meaningful teen-led Shabbat, Life Ceremonies, Regional Elections and more!
  • Sun. June 5 - Closing Banquet. Get pumped for our annual awards ceremony and executive installations. Family & friends welcome.

And of course, chapters continue to meet every Wednesday from 6pm to 8pm in Toronto at the Prosserman JCC (Room 123) and in Vaughan at Dufferin Clark Community Centre (Rooms 5/6).

But wait... there's more! Stay tuned for details about BBYO's participation in this year's Walk with Israel (May 29), among other exciting community events.

Those of you thinking of spending your summer with BBYO, be sure to check out the news about Scholarships in this e-news. Applications are due April 1st.

If you have any questions about anything in this e-news or would just like to chat, please be in touch! I can most easily be reached at 416.398.2004 ext 222 or kgoodman@bbyo.ca.

Los Angeles, California will host more than 750 Jewish teen leaders from more than 11 countries - including 15 teens from Toronto - from February 17th through 21st for BBYO’s 85th annual International Convention (IC). For the past eight decades, IC serves to unite the rising leaders of AZA and BBG to set the course for the coming year, determine strategies for strengthening BBYO as a youth-led movement and connect teens to the worldwide Jewish community.

Don't miss any of the action! BBYO's International Convention's Live Blog will have all of the latest photos, videos and happenings throughout the weekend. Visit the blog at www.bbyoicblog.org and follow IC on Twitter using the hashtag #bbyoic2011!

New Summer Scholarship Plan!

For Summer 2011, BBYO is introducing a new scholarship initiative. We understand that financial need is significant in many communities, and we are allocating more scholarship subsidy this year than at any point in BBYO's history.  BBYO is committed to affordability.

Scholarship applications will be reviewed by the BBYO regional offices so that funds are disbursed with a greater knowledge of individual teens’ needs.  All BBYO summer experiences (CLTC, ILTC, Kallah and Summer of IMPACT), as well as BBYO Passport Trips (Israel and World travel), are eligible for scholarship subsidy.

The deadline is April 1st, and all scholarship awards will be announced no later than May 1st.  Applications can be downloaded by clicking here and should be submitted to your regional office (see application for details).  We also urge parents and teens to connect with local Federations, BJEs, synagogues and other community agencies for additional scholarship support.  Regional staff can provide template letters to send to these agencies to request summer program funding.

Remember that early-bird pricing for CLTC, ILTC and Kallah expires on February 27th.  All registrations on or before February 27th will be discounted by $100.

Looking forward to an amazing summer in 2011!
