On Sunday, April 27, nearly 100 Alephs and BBGs from South Jersey Region #35 attended South Jersey Region’s End of Year Gala at the JCC. This event served as a celebration of South Jersey Region’s executive programming year.
After opening the South Jersey Region’s Business meeting, the BBG and AZA regional board members gave their State of the Region addresses, where they spoke of the strengths and weaknesses of the chapters and region in terms of their specific positions. These addresses allow the board members to share their accomplishments with the region. Additionally, the board members offered advice to both their successors on how to improve.
“[States are] a time to reflect on how the year went and what needs to be improved in the future. We worked hard this past year and we are really proud of where South Jersey Region is today,” said Regional N’siah (BBG President) Leah Janofsky.
As evidence by the Regional BBG Board State of the Region addresses, it’s clear that South Jersey Region is in a great state for the upcoming year. Dara Molotsky from Ohev BBG said she likes States because it allows for the regional board to share their views of the region with SJR’s members. She added that States were relaxed, but informative.
Before each BBG board member delivered her address, a close friend of the board member spoke for her. These speeches range from praiseworthy to nostalgic, as it is a time for the friend and board member to reflect on their time in BBYO together.
“[I was] just excited to be part of a great team that accomplished a lot this past year,” said Michael Rosenthal, Regional Shaliach, who not only delivered his own State of the Region address but spoke about Adam Bienstock, the Regional Godol.
In addition to friends speaking about them, the Regional Godol and Regional N’siah had family members speak for them as completing a term as regional president is a huge accomplishment.
Additionally, after the States portion of the night was over, the region honored its advisers. Advisers are adult volunteers who work with specific chapters, guide them through their programming and chaperone every event. Each chapter spoke for its advisor, and Jamie Brotz, adviser of Chevrah BBG was named “Advisor of the Year.” It was extremely important to express gratitude to our advisers, because without them, South Jersey Region and its chapters could not exist.
Overall, the End of Year Gala was a great night to conclude the executive programming year of South Jersey Region #35 and to celebrate Region and chapter accomplishments. .
