Excerpt from Across the Community People are Thinking About the New Year
Entering her sophomore year at Beth Tfiloh Dahan Community School, Dana Goldenberg was chosen as council shaliach by Baltimore’s BBYO chapter. The position entails keeping the members connected to their religion and organizing social action and community service opportunities.
She said that being elected is not only exciting, but an achievement that’s been an enormous confidence booster. It’s even more meaningful because her older brother, Michael, was once in the same position on the boys’ side.
While she’s eager to get started, her goal for the New Year is to prove to her peers that they selected the best person for the job.
“It’s nerve-racking and it’s an exciting experience, but I hope to do well in it and not disappoint any of the older members who thought this would be a big chance for me to do something good for the council,” Dana said.
Born in Israel, Dana said the holiday is celebrated differently in the Middle East. But she pointed out that the basis is still the same — spending time with family.
