Scarsdale Teens Help Hurricane Victims At The JCC

Read this story in the Scarsdale Daily Voice

SCARSDALE, N.Y. – The Jewish Community Center (JCC) of Mid-Westchester, in an effort to help families still suffering in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy, has organized local teenagers for a series of service projects.

BBYO – the official youth group of the JCC of Mid-Westchester – has been hard at work since Monday with 80 middle school students looking to spread cheer to those who felt the wrath of the storm the most.

Local teenagers made blankets for children, cards for elderly people trapped in their homes, baked cookies and decorated cupcakes for families confined to shelters. All the homemade goods went to Temple Beth-El in Rockaway Park, which was devastated by the hurricane.

To help youths closer to home, children were invited to the JCC on Sunday to watch a movie. This afforded everyone the opportunity to socialize with their peers in a warm, powered facility after missing school all week.

The JCC continues to collect food and supplies along with the UJA-Federation of New York’s Women’s Philanthropy Families Feeding Families initiative to help victims.
