BBYO & BLOOMINGDALE'S PARTNER TO STAND UP TO VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN
Event Raised Nearly $2,000 to Support Girls Achieve Grapeness
New York, NY – On Sunday, April 12, 2015, Bloomingdale's Roosevelt Field partnered with BBYO Big Apple Region (BAR), the regional BBYO program serving areas from Great Neck to Staten Island, to raise awareness and break the cycle of violence against women through philanthropy as part of Girls Achieve Grapeness, a campaign that BBYO and Jewish Women International (JWI) have collaborated on throughout the year. In just a few hours, teens raised nearly $2,000 to support this cause during “A Beautiful Day with BBYO!” at Bloomingdale’s. Funds raised reflect 10% of all in-store sales earmarked for this initiative.
What began with a custom shade of OPI nail polish has become a movement. Across North America, BBYO members are working with JWI to fundraise so that girls and young women become safe and independent. Girls who are empowered to realize their full potential grow into strong women – women who are far less likely to become victims of relationship abuse.
“Learning, and educating others, about this issue at an early age is crucial to prevent violence against women throughout all demographics,” said Lori Weinstein, CEO of JWI. “BBYO teens have been true champions in raising awareness through Girls Achieve Grapeness.”
During the event, patrons were treated to makeovers from Bloomingdale's professional make-up artists. More than 150 people visited BBYO’s station in the store to learn about Girls Achieve Grapeness and other ways BBYO provides outlets for Jewish teens to learn, lead and serve the world together year-round.
