Jewish teenagers from the major International Jewish Youth Movements are taking on bullying and standing up for their lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer peers. In addition to publicly committing to end bullying and creating an inclusive environment in their own movements, the Coalition of Jewish Teen Leaders, (the presidents of the International Jewish Youth Movements) has set a goal of getting 18,000 Jews to sign Keshet’s “Jewish Community Pledge to Save Lives”. This goal has been echoed by the executive leadership of the movements and their staff.

Special Needs Chapters
DC Council has two unique programs that focus on the social needs of teens with special needs. Since 1982, DC Council has incorporated the Richard Anderman Shalom BBYO Chapter for teens with special needs and since 2008, a second program, Kol Echad Youth, K.E.Y., was launched to support teens with multiple disabilities
Anderman Shalom BBYO Chapter members meet twice a month for various activities in the community at large, along side other BBYO members. Chapter advisors provide general adult supervision (1:6 ratio of adult to teens).
KEY Participants attend social programs that are structured and adapted to their strengths. We provide individualized social support and professional supervision. Participants benefit from 1:1 support as well as the active interest and socialization with BBYO teens. The KEY program also offers informal education to develop an awareness of the needs of teens with special needs through ongoing seminars.
Anderman Chapter will meet for bowling on January 23rd and Shabbat dinner on January 28th, . KEY program participants and volunteers will meet on February 13th for a multi sensory ‘tour’ of Israel.
For more information or participation in these programs, please contact Limor Hartman, Special Needs Program Director, at 301-348-3786 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
