Our Brother Alephs and Sister B’nai B’rith Girls,
Congratulations! By reviewing this Online Declaration Packet, you are taking the first step to explore serving on the 91st Grand Board of the Aleph Zadik Aleph and the 71st International Board of the B’nai B’rith Girls.
We are honored that you are inspired to further our Order’s legacy. For 90 years, BBYO has built the leadership of our North American and global Jewish communities. Serving as a member of the Grand and International Boards is only one of the many experiences we offer that will propel you toward a life of Jewish communal influence and impact.
We have no doubt that you will grow personally from serving on the Grand or International Board. That said, we hope that your motivations for caucusing for high and honorable office go well beyond your own individual aspirations. The highest of distinctions is service to others. This platform will empower you to do just that. For twelve months, you will serve the International Order, strengthen our Movement and support each and every Aleph and B’nai B’rith Girl worldwide. If you’re serious about this opportunity, realize you are offering yourself wholly to our organization. Be sure that you’re ready to commit yourself to making a lasting impact on the Jewish community that will be intensive, yet fulfilling and rewarding.
As our Movement grows, now reaching more than 18,000 Alephs and B’nai B’rith Girls, more than 45,000 Jewish teens across North America, and thousands more around the world, the pool of members interested in international leadership opportunities continues to expand as well. We expect to have a large contingency of candidates for only five AZA positions and five BBG positions. This is not intended to discourage you, but to help temper your expectations.
Serving on the Grand and International Boards is not for everyone. The candidacy process is intentionally challenging with strict deadlines. Serving requires you to devote a lot of time and energy to your responsibilities, which will be unlike any position you have held in the past. Those considering holding office should have a strong work ethic, be able to multi-task, be a self-motivator and self-starter, be detail oriented, be proactive, be a team player and have highly developed interpersonal and communication skills to interact with a variety of stakeholders (teens, parents, members, donors, alumni, Board of Directors, professionals, partner agencies, etc.). The Order will demand a lot from you, as you would expect that it would.
We want to remind you that serving at the International level is not the only way to move our Movement forward. Since 1924, the majority of AZA’s and BBG’s greatest achievements have taken place at the grassroots, and without a strong global network of thriving chapters, we would not be where we are today.
It is crucial that you put time and thought into this decision, and that you include your family, mentors, advisors and local staff in the process. We expect your decision to be one that follows open dialogue and questions that require answers. Please do not hesitate to reach out to us; we want you to be as informed as possible. We will be your biggest advocates, strongest supporters and we’re committed to ensuring that each candidate understands the responsibility to the fullest. We promise to be honest with you throughout, even if that means sharing what you may not want to hear. Ultimately, we want to make sure every step of your BBYO experience is fun and meaningful. Our intent is to ensure that this only amplifies your experience.
We thank you for taking this first step in exploring your candidacy. We wish you the best of luck in embarking on what we can ensure will be an unparalleled journey in your life. We’re inspired by your want to serve.
Respectfully submitted with undying love, dedicated to the 91st and 71st years of AZA and BBG, we remain,
