Director's Note

Hello BBYO NoVA! As the year comes to a close, we have much to celebrate. November brought with it amplified chapter spirit as we hosted our annual BBG Powderpuff Football Tournament at Chabad Lubavitch in Fairfax, VA. The girls, coached by members of NoVA AZA, competed while dressed head-to-toe in chapter colors. Congratulations to our 2013 BBG Powderpuff Champions, Or Chadash BBG!

Earlier this month, we joined with George Mason University Hillel for a Thanksgivvukah Shabbat Dinner during which NoVA teens were able to ask questions about Jewish life on campus. We were thrilled to be joined by BBYO alumni currently attending the university.

In the coming weeks, we are so excited to be welcoming teens to Regional Convention where DC, Baltimore and Northern Virginia Councils come together to truly celebrate chapter and regional spirit. The convention hosts engaging electives, an inspiring Shabbat with over 400 community members and a Day of Service that will allow teens to make their mark on the community. Convention will be held in Alexandria, Virginia at the Hilton Marks Center. Don't miss out, click here to register by December 23.

Sending happy and healthy New Year wishes!

Share BBYO with an 8th Grade Teen

Hanukkah came early this year, but our BBYO Connect 8th graders still have a chance to get the ultimate gift. On January 1, 2014, 8th graders can officially become Alephs and B'nai B'rith Girls! By joining the Aleph Zadik Aleph (AZA) or the B'nai B'rith Girls (BBG), they can continue their journey with BBYO.

There's no need to wait, though! Teens can register now and become official members on January 1. What a great way to start their year!

Advisor Spotlight

In January, three advisors from NoVA Council will be attending BBYO's annual Advisor Leadership Training Conference (ALTC) in Baltimore, Maryland. ALTC will provide a valuable opportunity for these dedicated BBYO volunteers to participate in training and professional development sessions that will directly benefit their work with our teens and chapters.

Our advisors will share best practices and attend interactive programs that explore topics like how to achieve programmatic excellence, strengthen the chapter membership recruitment process and add Judaic content to all programs.

We thank Michelle Brener (Or Chadash BBG), Rebecca Epstein (Haganah BBG) and Rachel Esformes (Or Chadash BBG) for attending ALTC 2014 and dedicating extra time to BBYO and the success of their chapters.

JDC-BBYO Global Service Fellowship

The JDC-BBYO Global Service Fellowship is a year-long, paid professional opportunity for Jewish young professionals to directly engage with the world’s largest Jewish humanitarian aid organization, the JDC. Alongside local teen and community leaders, these Fellows create and develop peer-led Jewish programming for teens in their communities. Fellows additionally engage teens in International BBYO programming, such as leading delegations from their communities to BBYO International Convention and other global experiences. The Fellows enrich Jewish life overseas by capitalizing upon BBYO’s expertise in teen programming and leadership development and by facilitating meaningful connections between Jewish teens from around the world, creating a truly international Jewish teen movement.

This year, BBYO has five Fellows: Jonah Adams in Estonia, Kate Belza is Argentina, Hannah Goldstein in Latvia, Ariel Mortiz in Turkey and Ezra Moses in Ukraine. Click here to learn more about this exciting fellowship!
