Director's Note

Hello, BBYO D.C. Council! We are puting the finishing touches on another great year of D.C. Council BBYO. This year our highlights included hosting the largest International Convention in BBYO's hisotry, massive membership growth, and sucessful chapter expansion with the charter of Beyla BBG and temporary charter of District BBG. We are excited for our last couple events of the year, which are the Color for A Casue: Color Run on June 2nd and the Northern Region East Closeout Pool Party on June 8. We hope that everyone has an amazing summer of growth, learning, and fun!

See you in August,

In Our Region

Hello, BBYO Northern Region East! As we close in on the end of the year, we have much to celebrate. Our region has shown incredible growth and reached more than 1,600 members in Baltimore, D.C., and NoVA. Our region also had three amazing programs this month - our end of year Council Conventions.

Congradulations to our new D.C. Council Board!

Honor Your Graduating Senior

BBYO is proud to have played a part in our seniors’ lives. NRE has prospered because of their leadership, dedication and commitment. As their time in high school ends, we want them to know that BBYO will always be their home. Honor the legacy of a senior close to you by making a gift in his/her honor today. When you do, a card will be sent letting your senior know of the gift made in his/her honor.

Can’t pick just one senior? Then honor the entire NRE Class of 2013!

By honoring our seniors today, you are ensuring that future generations of Jewish teens in our community will have access to the same meaningful BBYO experiences as our seniors have had over the past four and a half years.

Keep BBYO’s legacy strong and thank the class of 2013 for everything they have done. Honor your graduating senior here.

March of the Living Recap

18 NRE teens recently returned from BBYO’s national delegation of the March of the Living. A two-week international experience, they first joined teens from around the world to bear witness to the destruction of the Holocaust in Poland and then traveled to Israel to rejoice in the Jewish homeland. They commemorated Yom HaShoah, Holocaust Memorial Day, marching from Auschwitz to Birkenau, and then celebrated Yom Ha’Atzmaut, Israeli Independence Day, in the streets of Jerusalem.

"March of the Living gave me an opportunity to relive the history of my people and embrace my own culture. I didn't know what to expect going into the trip, but I came back a changed person," said Alice Polonsky of NoVA Council.

Other highlights of the trip included an opening ceremony at the Treblinka Memorial in Poland, a walking tour of the Warsaw Ghetto, a Motzei Shabbat event at Warsaw University with Canada’s National Delegation, a visit to The Western Wall in Jerusalem and a memorial service for Yom HaZikaron, Israeli Memorial Day, with BBYO’s sister youth movement in Israel, Maccabi Tzair.
