We Ate. We Lived. We are Wisco. WRC 2011
WRC 2011 - Eat. Live. Wisco was hit. 128 teens participated in this weekend's Winter Regional Convention, the largest Winter convention in 4 years.
Not sure what the best moment was:
- The Food Factor Game Show Friday Night (ask your kids about some of the messy challenges)
- Human Foosball or Nia
- Taste Testing Generic vs Name Brand Food
- Choosing Your Own Speaker
- Ice Skating
- or maybe just free time with friends
Thank you to all the advisors who volunteered their time and helped staff over the weekend.
We hope everyone had as much fun as we did.
Up All Night Success!
On Saturday Night, November 19-20th, Wisconsin Region BBYO stayed Up All Night for Hunger and Homelessness. Over 50 teens participated in this successful event. A big shout out to the organizers, Zoe Russek, David Rechavel, Mikaela Zetley, Ellie Goldstein, Nicole Gorliek, Lauren Plavnick, Avi Greenspan, Jesse Papermaster, and Mitchell Rowen for a well planned and executed evening/morning.
Some program highlights included:
- Food for Today simulation - participants were provided with a character and situation. Their goal was to be able to feed their family nutritiously for the three days of the simulation. Some stations to find food or help were a grocery store, a farmer’s market, a food pantry, and social services.
- Welcome Home simulation - participants were given a character and situation. Their task was to find housing. They struggled being bounced from agency to agency.
We raised almost $2000 to be donated to Hunger Task
Force and Habitat for Humanity. And collected over 40lbs of food for the Hunger Task Force, and a bag full of hats, gloves, scarves for the Hope House.
A big THANK YOU to everyone that attended Ahavah BBGs and BBYO's Positively Pink: Get your pink on...for Breast Cancer Awareness Program on December 4th.
Thank you to Laurie O'Neil, nurse practicer, who spoke to the group about breast cancer and steps to keep yourself healthy and stay on top of your breast health. and Becky Komisar, a breast cancer survivor, who spoke to the group about her struggle and survival. They were both inspirational and educational...and fun!
Well Done Ahavah!
Wisconsin Region BBYO is taking a closer look at being JEWISH, with an eye-opening seven part series called: TRUE Life: I AM A JEW. This series features a variety of Jewish professionals in our community to discuss their expertise on different divisions of Judaism.
These discussions will educate us on the origins and practices of each sect of Judaism and their view on: Kashrut, Shabbat, Conversion, Modesty, Intermarriage, Women's roles and responsibilities, Torah, Talmud and Rabbinic Law, Israel and more.
Thank you to Rabbi Noah Chertkoff for a successful first session.
Mark your calendars to join us for session two, Tuesday, December 27th with Reconstructionist Rabbi, Rabbi David Brusin.

Panim El Panim Seminar
For the third year in a row, BBYO is partnering with CJL (Coalition for Jewish Learning) for the Panim el Panim Seminar aka PeP.
PeP is a 4 day program in DC where participants receive advocacy training on a wide range of current topics, participate in service learning and have the opportunity to lobby their elected officials on Capitol Hill, putting what they have learned into action.
Participants meet a couple times before and after the trip...working on way to prep for the seminar and how to bring it back to the region. This year, PeP participants will be planning a Day of Service for the region.
Everyone who has participated in PeP over the past two years has loved it...and wishes they could go again. Just ask them.
Apply today to be a part of PeP 2012. Applications are now available. Click Here to download it. Fill it out and turn it in to the office by January 18th.

Happy Hanukkah from BBYO
On behalf of the BBYO community, I want to wish you and your family a Happy Hanukkah. During this festival of lights, tens of thousands of teens will celebrate Hanukkah at BBYO events across North America. As we light candles each night, we recall the miracle of Hanukkah and the story of triumph in the face of uncertainty.
Every day at BBYO we witness teens exploring and celebrating their Jewish heritage. Much like the Macabees, we expect that their faith and conviction will be a light unto the Jewish people and the world. They are our hope and inspiration. Thank you for being a member of the BBYO family.
