ABOUT AZA AND BBG

The Aleph Zadik Aleph (AZA) and the B’nai B’rith Girls (BBG) are a high school fraternity and sorority, and since our founding in 1924 and 1944, we have been member-led. Our priorities and programs reflect the interests and issues that matter most to us. And, we are as diverse in our pursuits as we are in our participants. AZA and BBG welcome Jewish teens of all backgrounds, denominational affiliation, gender, sexual orientations, and socio-economic status as well as those with a range of intellectual, emotional, and physical abilities.

Since the beginning, AZA and BBG and BBYO have been a welcoming place for all young Jews. It’s just who we are. In communities large and small, you’ll find friends and a place where you can have fun, learn, grow, celebrate your Jewish identity, give back to your community, and, most importantly, be yourself. Still, nearly 100 years later, BBYO is an international platform and a Movement where teens can be part of something great.

ABOUT AZA
Our fraternity, AZA, is named with the Hebrew letters Aleph Zadik Aleph and stands for Ahava, fraternal love, Tzedakah, benevolence, and Ahdoot, harmony. These are some of our core values. For generations, young men have called themselves “Alephs” as part of our international brotherhood. Our programming focuses on being well-rounded individuals and gentlemen, and includes social events with B'nai B'rith Girls and other AZA chapters, community service projects, athletic tournaments and Judaic enrichment. As brothers, we support each other and our development as leaders, community members, and Jewish young men.

ABOUT BBG
The BBG sisterhood is BBYO’s sorority and where generations of young women have developed their leadership skills, strengthened their Jewish identity, and formed lasting friendships among supportive young women. BBGs plan, lead, and enjoy social, athletic, community service and Judaic programming either in their own chapter, with other BBGs, or AZA chapters. Among their peers, friends, and with big sisters, young women have fun, embrace tradition and community, and find a voice for themselves.

LEADERSHIP STRUCTURE
Each chapter, council, regional, and International program elects officers with different responsibilities. Chapter officers serve six-month or full-year terms. On the council, region, and International levels, all officers serve for one year. While countless opportunities for leadership exist within AZA and BBG, the Orders succeed due to the active participation of all Alephs and BBGs. It is every member’s right to utilize AZA and BBG to their full capacity, whether it be attending programs, assisting in event planning, inviting other Jewish teens to get involved or by serving as active members of the Jewish community.
