Our first convention of the year is here! Join us for Fall Convention 2023!!!!!! The convention will be held November 3-5 at Camp Ramah New England in Palmer, MA.

The theme this year is "Legacy creates Destiny."  As we begin to celebrate our centennial year at BBYO we are excited to celebrate our past, present and future while giving all of our teens the opportunity to meet new members and participate in amazing teen-led programming.

Fall Convention is for every 8th-12th grade Jewish teen involved with BBYO and any teen interested in becoming more involved in BBYO. Chapter leaders, chapter members, new members are all invited!. No leadership role or prior program participation is required to participate. Teens must be registered members of BBYO to attend convention.  8th graders are welcome to join in Spring Convention April 5-7, 2024.

Some highlights of Fall Convention:

  • A weekend summer camp overnight experience 
  • Make new friends you don't know yet or have only met virtually and hang out with old friends from all over Massachusetts, Vermont, New Hampshire and Rhode Island
  • Shabbat Experiences all weekend long including creative teen-led services, Havdallah, our guest returning songleader Julia Sabra and educator Pamela Kekst who is also the Assistant Director of Ramah New England.
  • Athletics programming on Saturday morning called AZAA and BBGG
  • Fun and memorable programming led by our teen steering committee including Friday night onegs, saturday programs and more.
  • NER traditional activities including our Separates and Good and Welfare programs.
  • Saturday night Dance Party and other non-dance activities
  • Sunday morning Business Meetings

Timing (subject to change)

Fall Convention is November 3-5, 2023.  Registration begins on 10/4/23.

Buses will be provided starting at 12pm-1:30pm.  Specific bus timing will be given closer to the date.   We will provide buses from (with tenative locations and timing)

  • Andover, 12:00pm
  • Acton: Beth Elohim, 12:45pm
  • Metrowest Teens- depending on registration questions, we may move our typical Natick location to Westborough.  Pick up around 1:30pm in either location.
  • Newton (Newton/Needham/Brookline), Temple Emanuel Newton 1:30pm
  • Marblehead, Temple Emanu-el, 12:30pm
  • Sharon, Temple Israel 12:45pm
  • Providence, Jewish Alliance of Rhode Island 1:30pm

We will be finishing programming by 1:30pm on Sunday November 5 and teens should be arriving back home between 2:45-4pm depending on location.

We understand that the bus times are during the school day, staff can provide school excusal notes if requested.

Scholarship

Scholarship is available on a limited basis, applications due by 10/13/23 by 5pm. Click here to apply.  You must be logged into mybbyo to apply. Food

All food provided will be kosher so we will be having meat meals as well as vegetarian food.  We will serve 2 dinners, 2 lunches and 2 breakfasts.  Snacks will always be available in the dining hall as well as offering late night snacks.  Camp will be providing gluten free, vegan options, please email Jeff Hast at [email protected] if you have any questions.  We can also connect you to the camp if you have more detailed questions.

What to Bring and Rooming
At Camp Ramah, we will be sleeping in cabins.  Each cabin has bunk beds with a combined 12-16 beds. Teens can select their beds when they arrive- rooms/cabins will be assigned but not beds.   We are taking rooming requests (see registration question) but everyone will be with at least 10 other teens.

Teens will need to bring bedding for a twin size bed and/or sleeping bags and pillows.

We will provide a packing list closer to the event and make additions depending on weather forecasts.

Who's Leading the Convention?
We will have staff, advisors, guests present throughout the weekend.  Fall Convention is run by our teen-led steering committee led by our Regional S'ganim (VP's of Programming) Abby Mahr of Mishpucha BBG (Metrowest) and Harry Barnett of Sababa AZA (Metrowest).

Supervision

We will have NER staff (Jeff and Talya), volunteer advisors, Camp Ramah staff all in attendance plus additional overnight security from 11pm-7am.

Cancellation Policy: The deadline to cancel with a full program refund is the final registration deadline for this program. Until that date, full refunds will be granted for cancellations in writing (e-mail is acceptable), for any reason. After the registration deadline, partial refunds may be available based on convention expenses already paid (camp, transportation, etc.). Within ten days of convention we’ve already confirmed final counts with our vendors, and no refunds will be given (unless a doctors note is received due to illness). “No shows” will not receive a refund.

Depending on registration, camp availability and transportation we may have to close registration earlier than  deadline and your teen will be placed on a waitlist.

Registration Questions and CampDocs:

  • There are registration questions to answer regarding which bus to take, roommate request, t-shirt size and more.
  • Please answer the allergy/dietary restriciton question so we request enough food.
  • All teens/families must fill out CampDocs information by 10/31/23 so we know allergies, physcial and mental health information and vaccine information along with other questions.
