Q&A

REGISTRATION

  • Friday, October 23: Registration is open for New Community Price of $38.00
  • Friday, November 6: Scholarship application closes at 11:59pm
  • Friday, November 6: Registration closes at 11:59pm. No refunds will be given after this date.
  • Monday, November 9: Scholarship Allocations Announced
  • Tuesday, November 10: COVID-19 waiver due online if attending in-person program
  • Friday, November 13-15: Regional Convention
  • What is the cancellation/refund policy? The deadline to cancel with a full program refund is the final registration deadline for each program. Until that date, full refunds will be granted for cancellations in writing (email is acceptable) for any reason. After the registration deadline (Friday, Nov 6th at 11:59pm) we've already confirmed final counts with our vendors, and no refunds will be given for any reason. "No shows" will not receive a refund.
  • Can I register after the registration deadline? Late registrations will be accepted only if we have not yet placed our supply order. For the lowest price, and a guaranteed spot at convention, we strongly recommend registering before the November 6th deadline.
  • Are there an unlimited number of convention spots? Yes! While our in-person portion of convention is limited to 50 cars, we are able to accept any members who are interested in joining us!
  • Why does a virtual convention cost money? Great question! While virtual conventions are much, much cheaper than in-person conventions ($65 vs. $310 for BOTC last year), there are still some costs associated with it. The convention fee helps cover convention supplies (programming materials, apparel, software purchased for convention, etc.), guest speakers and workshop programming, staff and more. Extensive scholarship is available, and we strongly encourage you to apply. There is an opportunity to list why you are applying for a scholarship (COVID related barriers, teen paying for convention, family expenses, etc.) that may paint a bigger picture.

CONVENTION BACKGROUND                                                                                                                                                   .

  • Who is this convention for? BOTC is for every Jewish teen registered for membership with BBYO PWR! Chapter leaders, chapter members, new members, 8th graders, freshmen, sophomores, juniors, and seniors are all invited. No leadership role or prior program participation is required to participate. Teens must be registered members of BBYO to attend BOTC.
  • Why should I attend convention? BBYO conventions are one of the things that teens look most forward to during the school year. With all of the changes in teens’ lives over the past six months, we’re excited to offer an experience that will be different in looks, but with all of the same BBYO traditions we hold near and dear. Programs are guaranteed interactive and our teen steering committee is working hard to ensure these are programs PWR has never seen before.
  • Where will I be? For most of the convention, you’ll be joining us remotely. For some programs, you’ll be given suggestions of where to be to create the optimal atmosphere (ex. Outside, in a comfy spot, with your families, at a desk/table, etc.). On Saturday, November 14th, the region (teens and parents) will gather in-person for a couple hours for a drive-in movie. This program will match our protocols for in-person programming, including social distancing and mask required..
  • How will participants meet new people and interact with their regional friends if programming is mostly virtual? Our convention leadership team and steering team are working to ensure programming allows for new connections to be formed. Whether it be in a breakout room or assigned to a team for a scavenger hunt, you'll be sure to make many memories together.

PREPARING FOR CONVENTION                                                                                                                                               .

  • What are BBYO's online community standards? Linked here are the guidelines for engaging in BBYO programming online.
  • Please note that the BBYO Code of Conduct still applies to all virtual and in-person events
  • Please have your covid- 19 waivers signed prior to attending the in-person portion of the event.

ON-SITE LOGISTICS

  • How do I get to the in-person program? Teens are permitted to drive themselves to this event, as it is not an overnight. Unfortunately, due to social distancing protocols, we cannot help coordinate carpooling.  If you and your family decide on your own terms that you will allow your teen to carpool, please note that it is a family decision and not something BBYO is providing. We also invite parents of non-drivers to join us for this portion of the event so that everyone in PWR  can enjoy the drive in movie.
  • What if I don’t feel comfortable attending/sending my teen to the in-person portion of convention? No problem! We absolutely understand that families have different personal practices during this time. While we are not able to discount convention, we will arrange for all supplies for convention  to be delivered to you, and we will be offering a virtual-only Zoom with the same activity for all teens who will not be in person.
  • Who will be staffing the in-person portion of the program? We will have the PWR staff and advisors attending this event.
  • Can I attend the in-person program if I’m not registered for BOTC? Only registered members for BOTC 2020 will be able to attend the in-person program, as it is a budgeted portion of BOTC.
