BECOME AN ADVISOR FOR BBYO NASSAU SUFFOLK REGION

Over 1,600 Jewish teens come together across Long Island to learn leadership skills, embrace their Judaism, connect with each other and more in BBYO. The uniqueness of BBYO Nassau Suffolk Region (NSR) shines in our chapters and members. Whether they’re planning programming, recruiting new members, raising money for a good cause, or establishing leadership initiatives, our teens go above and beyond to make a difference in local and international communities.

Learn more below about the benefits of becoming a BBYO advisor on Long Island!

How many chapters does NSR have?
NSR has 25 chapters between Nassau and Suffolk counties. Each chapter upholds the values of the Aleph Zadik Aleph and the B’nai Brith Girls, but also has their own unique culture to their chapter. As one of the largest BBYO communities, NSR has unique opportunities that teens might not be able to find anywhere else. Our ongoing and ever-changing traditions are what bring our community together whether we are 600 people in a convention room, or a small chapter gathering for Shabbat.

How do chapters work?
BBYO chapters operate in many different ways. From meaningful programs at our local community centers, to backyard basketball tournaments and chapter sleep-overs, our members always find meaningful ways to engage. In today’s COVID-19 world, we can still meet the standards of our awesome programming through virtual meet-ups and events! A chapter advisor would support the program planning process, as well as assisting chapter leaders on a virtual call.

What do advisors do in NSR?
In their spare time, advisor volunteers are dedicated to supporting their chapter through mentorship, communication, and planning. They work directly with chapter leaders, are supported by our full-time professional staff, and help our teens engage in successful chapter operations with our mutual goal in mind - more Jewish teens, more meaningful Jewish experiences. A chapter advisor can be one of the most impactful and influential relationships in the leadership journey of a BBYO teen.

What’s the NSR advisor community like?
NSR advisors include those who have been with BBYO for decades, newly joined parents, involved community members and more. We encourage communication and mutual support amongst our advisor community, and it helps to have the same thing in common as we all love BBYO and want to continue to see our NSR chapters thrive! We are so thankful for our dedicated advisors!

I’m so fortunate to be the advisor to the chapter I was in as a teen. Over the past five years I’ve been able to give back to an organization that gave me so much. It allowed me to grow and step outside of my shell. The leadership opportunities were endless. Now, as an advisor, I see so many of my teens take advantage of those same opportunities and capitalize on them. One of the best feelings as an advisor is hearing the teens thank you for the hard work you put in to help them achieve their goals. BBYO has been and continues to be a great experience as an adult giving back.” - Craig Berman, NSR Alumnus & Advisor to New Frontier AZA #1512
