Advisor Connect

August 2021

Hey there, advisors. We’re Jared Wilen and Emma Zentner, your International presidents.

We are beyond honored to be serving as the 97th Grand Aleph Godol and 77th Anita M. Perlman International N’siah. Here’s more about us!

We’re excited to be traveling to communities across the globe, and hey! Maybe we’ll get to one of your chapter’s events! Have a specific event in mind? Just shoot us an email at [email protected] or [email protected] and we’ll be happy to work with you and provide you with all of the resources possible to ensure our chapters are thriving.

One of our biggest priorities this year are the chapters, and we are incredibly thankful for all of the time, commitment, and passion you put into your work to ensure our chapters, and our Movement are as strong as possible.

P.S. We’re excited to start the new year strong with a big day of celebrating and training chapter leaders. We’d love for your chapter leaders to join us for our Global Movement Launch on Sunday, August 22 at 14:30-16:30 CET for teens in Europe, Africa, Asia, and Australia or 12:30-2:30pm ET for teens in North and South America. Send teens this link for more details and to register.

Two new advisor opportunities: Sign up for the Advisor Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Justice Cohort. Apply for the Advisor Leadership Team.

Join the Advisor Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Justice Cohort

BBYO is launching its first professional development cohort experience for advisors, where you will dive deeply into Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Justice (DEIJ), and learn how to bring home lessons to benefit your teens.

You will participate in four 2-hour webinars from September to January, led by expert external facilitators, on topics like combating oppression, mitigating unconscious bias, and leading with empathy. Dates TBD based on your availability, and will most likely be on Sunday afternoons. From there, you’ll be asked to develop and facilitate a DEIJ program for your chapter or community, and you’ll receive coaching and funding to make it happen.

For more information and to sign up, click here. This opportunity is free and open to all interested advisors. Please register by Wednesday, September 1.

Seeking New Members of the Advisor Leadership Team

Now that you have been involved at the chapter level, have you considered getting involved at the international level by mentoring and improving the advising experience? If so, consider applying to be a member of the Advisor Leadership Team. The team is made up of a core group of advisors that work closely with BBYO staff and teens to improve the advising experience for all. It’s also a great way to network with advisors from across the order and make new connections.

“Over the past year, as a member of this committee, I had the opportunity to meet the Board of Directors, sit in on current trend focus groups, and take a leading role in the planning of March's Advisor Connect Conference. One thing I appreciate about this committee is the flexibility and opportunities to shape the committee's goals. There are roles for all interests: social gatherings, appreciation opportunities, learning content creation, and general input. One of my favorite moments is the team meetings. Everyone is open and honest and we are able to have real conversations on the successes and struggles of the advising experience and how we can improve it.

Does this sound like something you may be interested in but unsure of the commitment or if it is the right role for you? Do not hesitate to contact me. I'd be more than happy to talk about my experiences and the different opportunities. I can be reached at [email protected].”

All U.S. advisors must be vaccinated against COVID. Upload your proof of vaccination today.

As a friendly reminder, all U.S. advisors received an email (here) earlier this week outlining our new policy: Beginning in August 2021, BBYO is requiring all advisors and staff based in the United States who interact with teens to be fully vaccinated (vax date plus two weeks). Currently, Moderna, Pfizer, Astra Zeneca, or Johnson & Johnson are the accepted vaccines.

The email also included instructions for uploading your proof of vaccination into VolunteerMatters. While you’re in VolunteerMatters, we highly encourage you to complete any other outstanding compliance items required for advising. If you’re having technical difficulties, please email [email protected]. If you have questions or would like to request a medical exemption, please email Amanda Cohen at [email protected].

Currently, this only applies to U.S. advisors. Guidance for Canadian and global advisors will be forthcoming.
