2022 Eastern New Member Weekend Convention - October 21-23 - Camp Weaver, Greensboro, NC 

ATTENDEES:  All new 9th and 10th graders in Eastern Region BBYO from Virginia, North Carolina and Southeast Councils (South Carolina and Southern Georgia) along with our Council Morim and Presidents, selected group of upperclassmen trainers, BBYO staff and advisors.

PURPOSE: New Member Weekend is a convention planned specifically for new 9th and 10th graders in BBYO. Programming during the weekend will revolve around the basics of BBYO: programming, history, and how chapters function. The participants will have the opportunity to meet other Jewish teens from North Carolina, Virginia, South Carolina and southern Georgia, learn all about BBYO and have a great time. 

COST AND REGISTRATION: The cost of the convention is $260  (not including transportation). Registration is open & will close on Sunday, October 2nd at midnight.  

TO REGISTER: Go to and fill out our secure registration form. Make sure you are answering all questions.  If you are having a problem registering, please call the regional office at 704-944-6834 and we will be happy to take your payment over the phone. Refunds will not be given if you cancel the week of the convention.      

SCHOLARSHIPS: Scholarships are available for New Member Weekend Convention. The deadline to submit scholarship applications is Sunday, September 25th at midnight. The scholarship form must be completed online at: https://bbyo.org/scholarship-form. Each family will be contacted, via email, by the regional office with the amount of scholarship awarded the week of October 26th. Once you accept the scholarship, the regional office will register you for the convention and then you can pay the balance. If you are requesting scholarship money, please do not register online until awards are announced.   

HEALTH REQUIREMENTS AND FORMS:Beginning in August 2021, BBYO is requiring all teens, staff, and advisors attending any overnight programs (chapter, city, council, regional, and international programs) based in the United States to be fully vaccinated (vax date plus two weeks). Currently, Moderna, Pfizer, Astra Zeneca, or Johnson & Johnson are the accepted vaccines.

  2. Under program alerts, you will see vaccine acknowledgement with the name of each of your teens and a button for the waiver
  3. Click on complete waiver
  4. Please read through entire waiver, sign and click submit
  5. Reminder: this will NOT show up on a teen account only a parent account

BBYO works with CampDoc, the leading electronic health record system.  All participants and parents are required to complete a health file before attending a BBYO convention. Once you have registered for the convention, you will receive an email inviting you to join CampDoc. Accept the invitation and complete or update all forms. These forms provide dietary, medical and other important information. Teens will not be allowed to attend without a complete profile. All CampDoc information is due NO LATER THAN October 19th.

SUPERVISION: The convention will be staffed by BBYO professionals and chapter advisors. There will be 1 staff person for every 15 teens.   

ACCOMMODATIONS AND WHAT TO BRING: Please bring toiletries, sleeping bag, pillow, towel, nice clothes for Friday night Shabbat, and clothing for inclement weather. Besides Shabbat, the attire for the weekend is casual. The teens will be staying in heated cabins. The food will be kosher style – no mixing of milk and meat. When meat is served it is kosher.  The kitchen is not kosher.

ARRIVAL/DEPARTURE/TRANSPORTATION: Arrival will be at 7:00pm and dinner will be served at 7:30pm on Friday, October 21st. The convention will end on Sunday, October 23rd at noon. A transportation and logistics email will go out one week prior to convention and will include transportation costs and timing for each city. Transportation cost is not included in the convention fee. Teens are never allowed to drive to BBYO conventions.
