Hard Work Pays Off

Celebrating our achievements is one of our oldest traditions. To teens who have worked hard and dedicated themselves to the goals of BBYO and, thereby, to the values of K’lal Yisrael, the Global Jewish community, we thank you. Through AZA and BBG International Awards, we congratulate and honor Alephs and BBG for their accomplishments. Do you know someone who should apply for an International Award? Send them a nudge!

BBYO Individual Awards

The Menorah Pledge and Cardinal Principles Award

Awarded to Alephs and Bʼnai Bʼrith Girls who truly embody the Cardinal and Menorah Pledge Principles, this award honors teens who have dedicated their time and energy to promoting the values of our Orders and have embraced these ideals in all aspects of their lives.

Recipients of this award are nominated by their fellow Alephs and B’nai B’rith Girls, making this an especially noteworthy award.

AZA Individual Awards

The Shield of David Award

One of the most historic and prestigious honors awarded to an Aleph, the Shield of David Award recognizes Alephs who have made outstanding leadership contributions, displayed a consistent commitment to the fraternity that is AZA, and have consistently shown that they exemplify the principles that the Aleph Zadik Aleph holds so dear.

The award is based on a holistic evaluation of the following achievements in a member’s participation:

  • Fulfilling the duties of office at any level of the Aleph Zadik Aleph.

  • Acting as an event coordinator or member of a planning committee.

  • Contributing to the Aleph’s chapter.

  • Fulfilling his responsibility of giving the experience of AZA to others through recruitment.

Every Aleph in good standing may apply for the Bronze Shield of David Award. The Silver Shield of David Award is awarded to Alephs who have gone above and beyond in the achievements listed above, and have support from fellow Alephs, BBGs, professional staff, and/or alumni in their deserving of this award.

The application must be completed and submitted before the applicant becomes an alumnus.

The Star of Deborah Award

One of the most historic and prestigious honors awarded to a BBG, the Star of Deborah Award recognizes BBGs who have made outstanding leadership contributions, displayed a consistent commitment to the sisterhood and siblinghood that is BBG, and have consistently shown that they exemplify the principles that the B'nai B'rith Girls hold so dear.

The award is based on a holistic evaluation of the following achievements in a member’s participation:

  • Fulfilling the duties of office on any level of the B'nai B'rith Girls

  • Acting as an event coordinator or member of a planning committee

  • Contributing to the BBG's chapter

  • Fulfilling her responsibility of giving the experience of BBG to others through recruitment

Every BBG in good standing may apply for the Silver Star of Deborah Award. The Gold Star of Deborah Award is awarded to BBGs who have gone above and beyond in the achievements listed above, and have support from fellow BBGs, Alephs, professional staff, and/or alumni in their deserving of this award.

The application must be completed and submitted before the applicant becomes an alumnae.

Chapter Awards

Then Henry Monsky Chapter Excellence Award of AZA

The Henry Monsky Chapter Excellence Award is the most prestigious honor an AZA chapter can earn. It requires that the chapter represent and maintain the highest standards in all areas of chapter operations—growing membership, diverse and rich programming, healthy chapter organization, and consistent contributions to and participation in the initiatives and programs led by the International Order. Chapters that reach Advanced Proficiency or Exemplary chapter status are eligible for this award.

The Chapters selected for this honor are leaders of the global community of Alephs and exemplify the ideals set forth in the Seven Cardinal Principles. All chapters should strive to be included on this annual honor roll, and this application can be used to organize a chapter’s planning each term.

Staff and Advisor Awards

David Bittker Unsung Hero Award

David Bittker z”l selflessly invested his time, passion, and resources to strengthen the Jewish community. BBYO seeks to share David’s model of leadership with generations of young people.

The David Bittker Unsung Hero Award is presented annually by BBYO to an outstanding advisor who demonstrates David’s qualities: integrity, humility, dedication, and hard work.

Criteria to Nominate an Advisor:‍

  • Minimum of two years serving as an advisor
  • Involvement at the chapter and regional level
  • Goes above and beyond in ensuring teens in their chapter and region have an incredible BBYO experience
  • Serves as a coach and mentor as they continue to build leaders within their chapter
