Explore Israel

Israel is the homeland of the Jewish People: historical and modern, innovative, diverse, vibrant, and complex. The Explore Israel initiative is intended to help you begin to understand your relationship with the State of Israel through programming, training, debate, immersive travel, face-to-face encounters with teens and adults representing all viewpoints and thoughtful dialogue. Alephs and BBGs have a wide array of Israel experiences, opinions, and questions. We may not always agree on everything, but we're working to build a safe space that encourages curiosity, challenging each other, and personal growth. Your relationship with Israel will be lifelong; start exploring today!

Get Started

The history of BBYO is closely tied to that of the State of Israel. AZA and BBG leaders signed a declaration recognizing the State of Israel before its independence in 1948, and have been experiencing Israel through teen travel since 1956. As the leaders of the global Jewish community, it is our responsibility to learn about, appreciate, advocate for, challenge, and shape the future of Israel.

BBYO offers year-round opportunities for meaningful engagement with Israel. Explore ways you can get involved below.

Alephs and BBGs can be a part of the Explore Israel Club or Global Israel Fellowship through the International Leadership Network (ILN). These groups regularly meet and host programming on BBYO On Demand.

Meet Tal, BBYO's Central Sh'licha

Tal is the Maccabi World Union Central Shlicha at BBYO, based in Washington, DC, where she oversees Israel engagement across the global Movement.

Originally from Gedera, Israel, Tal grew up deeply involved in Maccabi Tzair Gedera, where she served as a Madricha for many years and participated in a Gap Year program in Maccabi Tzair. Her passion for working with the Jewish community worldwide began there. Following her Gap Year, Tal served as a commander in the IDF’s “Garin Tzabar” program, supporting lone soldiers making Aliyah.

Before her current role, Tal earned a BA in Business and Health Management and worked at Laser Modeling, a 3D printing company collaborating with health systems and the security industry globally. She has extensive experience in leading summer programs with Maccabi Tzair and BBYO, including CLTC, ILSI, JCC Maccabi Games, and the UK Trek trip. While at university, she was actively involved with the Movement and participated in the MTZ-BBYO Ambassadors Fellowship as a mentor and coach. Fun facts about Tal: She is a triplet, she is a certified yoga teacher, and she loves to scuba dive around the world.

These Are My Brothers אלה האחים שלי

Every year on the 4th of Iyar, we commemorate Yom HaZikaron, Israel’s memorial day for fallen soldiers and victims of terrorism. This is a powerful opportunity to partner with a chapter in BBYO’s Sister Movement, Maccabi Tzair, to run this together.
