Mishpocha AZA wanted to kick-off November with a blast. The chapter board decided they needed something exciting, thrilling, and invigorating. While the initial choice for an event fell through, the board was able to pursue their second choice: ax-throwing. For fall fest, Mishpocha AZA went to Full Throttle Indoor Karting. In addition to the ax-throwing, our chapter members also had the opportunity to race go-karts at speeds up to 40 mph.

After people first arrived, they were guided to the ax-throwing area. Each lane at the ax-throwing area had protective fencing on the sides and a target in the middle. Our chapter had 90 minutes allotted to ax-throwing. Throwing an ax is not entirely intuitive. There’s a certain heft and feel to get around. Luckily, there was a throwing coach present to teach the proper technique. The “tomahawk technique” was popular, where one would treat the large ax as a smaller cousin and try to throw it one-handed. For some, this was difficult, so they turn to a two-handed overhead throw. Success varied, “some people hit the bullseye, some others like me, could not,” said Chapter S’gan Jacob Peri. When throwing, one had to be cautious. Sometimes the ax would bounce right off the target and come back your way. After 90 minutes of hard-handed throws, the alephs took some time to eat pizza and recover. The day finished with a long go-kart race, a victory lap for a day of successful throws. This race was competitive as members pushed the karts close to their top speed, an exhilarating end to a memorable fall fest! We are all so hyped for the next year that makes our BBYO journeys awesome.
