Every region bonds in different ways, whether through conventions, regional hangouts, and beyond. In Wisconsin Region, Alephs and BBGs usually head over to the BBYO regional office every Friday afternoon for what we call “Oneg.” Oneg keeps the region connected, and people can see their regional friends every week.

On October 18th, during the festival of Sukkot, our region did not hold the typical Oneg. This week, Oneg was held at the home of Sophie Packman, our Regional Mit Mom, in her sukkah.

Due to the temperature dropping, there was plenty of hot chocolate, and apple cider served with pizza and snacks. It was the perfect occasion to catch up with friends after a long week.

A particular moment that stood out to me at the event was when a local Rabbi discussed the importance of the lulav and etrog, gave a demo, and invited the teens to shake the lulav in every direction. It reminded me of the historical significance of Sukkot and how special Sukkot is for the Jewish people.

Reminiscing on this special night, taking Oneg off-site to celebrate Sukkot was a new way for Alephs and BBGs to feel the power of food and friendship.
