With election season amongst us, stress levels are abundant and speech writing is at an all-time high. For many of us, elections don’t always turn out the way we want them to. With that being said, here is a guide to losing with dignity.

  1. I know its very disheartening when your name isn't announced as the winner, but it is extremely important to refrain from showing emotion.
  2. Congratulate the winner. It will be difficult, but showing that there is no grudge being held is important for you to maintain friendships and progress forward in BBYO.
  3. Take some time to think. Call a friend from a summer program, talk with a parent, or even spend some alone time on a walk. This will help you relax.
  4. Once you’re ready and in the right headspace, continue to attend your chapter programs and events. There is so much more to BBYO than leadership positions and you’ll realize that you can still make the most of your time in BBYO!

After reading this guide, hopefully, you’ll know that board positions aren’t everything and that losing is never the end of the world.
