I highly recommend getting involved in the planning of a regional convention, as it gives you a small leadership position that aids the region and helps to ensure that your region produces the best convention possible. It is a fantastic opportunity to give personal input on how to improve your regional convention and make it a memorable weekend for everyone in attendance.

For the past 3 months, many people have been hard at work planning Manhattan and Big Apple Region’s winter convention that is slated to occur December 15th-17th! Every Monday night, we have a 1-and-a-half-hour call where we do one group icebreaker and calling party activity and then go into breakout groups depending on which committee you are working on. Each committee has a captain and a few regional board members!

Since I am Manhattan’s Mazkirah, I had the honor of working with the marketing committee. In the weeks leading up to the convention, we have been making Tiktok, fun giveaways, Instagram posts, packing lists, and much more in prep for convention. My favorite part about being on marketing, though, is the fun takeovers and Tiktoks that we make with our region at convention!

If you are in marketing in the future, some tips and tricks I have are creating a thorough marketing schedule at the first steering meeting to have a plan to follow, allocating specific jobs to different people, and having check-ins throughout the week to make sure everyone is on track for their jobs.

In the past, I have also been on programming and spirit committees. On programming, I planned a sing-along event where everyone had a blast, and on spirit, I helped plan the first Manhattan Spirit Cup.

Overall, there are many different ways you can get involved in your region, and planning a convention is a great way to do so. There is a job for anything that you want to do!
