A Constant in My Life: Weekly Chapter Meetings
What often goes unmentioned is the challenge of first-semester of senior year. Balancing homework, senior activities, various extracurriculars, and, of course, college applications fill up my days. However, weekly BBYO meetings emerge as one of the few constants—something I cling to for comfort, a notion I know will always be there.
D’vash’s weekly meetings are what I look forward to every Monday. When I walk into our meetings, it's like time stands still. The joy I find from spending time with my D’vash sisters is unparalleled. Knowing that I have to complete my school assignments prior to the meetings so I can focus and be present throughout the whole hour and a half is my primary motivator. With our hectic schedules, I know without a doubt that Mondays are when I can connect with my closest friends.
In recent weeks, our meetings have been focused on relaxation and a sense of groundedness. D’vash collaborated with Gever, an AZA chapter in our region, for Shabbat Dinner and Pumpkin Decorating Night. The following week, we had a spa night with Echad, a BBG chapter we don’t typically have programming with. We made new regional friends and enjoyed a relaxing night of face masks and bonding.
D’vash thrives on our weekly meetings, and their importance cannot be overstated. The opportunity to meet each week provides a much-needed space to regroup. Our commitment to the chapter strengthens our bond and demonstrates the vital sense of community that sustains us throughout the year.
Given the current events, BBYO has become one of my top priorities. The ongoing tragedies in Israel and around the world prove that now, more than ever, showing the strength and joy of the Jewish community is significant. As a chapter, region, and international order, our consistent presence each week demonstrates our commitment as a Jewish community to persevere.
