Participating in the planning aspect of the BBYO International Convention (IC) 2025 as a BBG Lounge Captain was one of the most impactful and rewarding experiences of my leadership journey in this organization. This role allowed me to grow as a leader, connect with inspiring peers, and contribute to a vibrant and empowering space for BBGs from all over the world.

When I first accepted the role of BBG Lounge Captain, I knew it would be a challenge, but one I was excited to take on. The lounge is a central hub for creativity, relaxation, and meaningful connections during IC, so creating an environment where everyone feels welcome and inspired was a top priority. I wanted every BBG who walked through those doors to feel empowered, seen, and celebrated.

Several months before IC, I collaborated with an incredible team of leaders and staff to brainstorm activities, design the lounge layout, and organize materials. The goal was to create a space with a strong balance of fun, education, and opportunities for personal growth. We focused on providing activities that encourage creativity, self-expression, and bonding—from interactive workshops to relaxing hangout zones.

Serving as a Lounge Captain taught me invaluable lessons about leadership, teamwork, and adaptability. I learned how to manage complex logistics and handle unexpected challenges with a positive mindset. However, most importantly, I learned the power of creating inclusive spaces where everyone feels valued and heard.

I’m incredibly grateful for the support of my fellow Steering Committee members, BBYO staff, and every BBG who will help make this lounge come to life during this IC! This experience reminded me of the strength of our BBYO community and the incredible things we can achieve when we work together.

Looking back, my time as BBG Lounge Captain will always be a highlight of my BBYO journey. It not only strengthened my leadership skills but also deepened my passion for creating meaningful experiences for others. I can’t wait to see how future leaders continue to innovate and inspire at IC for years to come!
