Giving back to your community is important because it not only creates positive impact on others, but also provides personal opportunities for learning, growth and connection.

In our community, there are many organizations individuals can participate in to become active in our Detroit Jewish community such as the Federation, Ort, Partners in Torah, and our temples/synagogues are

Bookstock Detroit, which enables so many people to enjoy books at an affordable price, is a tradition in our community and takes place every April. From the year-long opportunities to donate books, volunteers organizing books, and then getting the sale ready with pricing, a tremendous amount of work goes into preparing Bookstock.

Bookstock brings people from all over our state with over 30,000 books for sale. Making books more accessible to everyone boosts literacy and gives back to the community. Bookstock has raised over $3 million for literacy and education projects across metro Detroit in the past 21 years. This money is distributed to various local organizations and programs.

Our Detroit Jewish community offers a wide array of opportunities to give back. We are very lucky to have such a vast amount of volunteer opportunities and resources available to us.
