If you’ve ever opened the BBYO Insider on Instagram and seen a flood of stories featuring bagel breakfasts, spirit wear, and shaky selfie videos that start with “Hey BBYO!” – you’ve witnessed a takeover.

To some people, an Instagram takeover might just seem like a fun social media thing. But for teens in BBYO, it’s so much more. It’s a moment to represent your chapter, your community, and your Jewish teen experience all through your videos and pictures.

When I got the chance to do a BBYO takeover for the first time, I’ll admit I was a little nervous. What if my story posts weren’t exciting enough? What if no one watched? But once I started, I realized it wasn’t about being perfect. It was about being real. I showed what a convention weekend actually looks like: singing during Havdalah, laughing during song sessions, getting way too competitive in chapter vs. chapter competitions.

A BBYO takeover isn’t just about content, it’s about connection. When Jewish teens from all over the world watch your story, they see a piece of themselves in it. They might recognize the same songs, the same prayers, or that same feeling of belonging that comes from being part of something bigger.

Being chosen to run the Insider, even just for a few hours, feels like an honor. It’s like holding a tiny microphone for our entire movement. Every post was a reminder that BBYO is powered by teens who care, lead, and create. It’s a chance to show the world that Jewish teens aren’t just participating, we’re shaping the story.

When my 24 hours ended, I was exhausted, my camera roll was chaos, and my phone battery was at 10%. But I also felt proud, because for one day, I got to show the world what Jewish teen life really looks like: loud, joyful, meaningful, and totally authentic.

So next time you see someone say, “Hey BBYO, I’m taking over today!” Remember, it’s not just a social media moment. It’s a celebration of who we are.
