Questions That Strengthened My Identity
Before attending International Kallah, I thought strengthening my Jewish identity meant finding more answers. Instead, I left with something even more valuable, better questions.
Throughout the 3 weeks, I was surrounded by teens from different backgrounds, traditions, and perspectives. Every conversation reminded me that there isn’t just one way to experience Judaism. Whether we were learning through text, discussing current issues, or simply sharing personal stories, I found myself reflecting on beliefs I had never stopped to think about before. Rather than making me uncertain, those moments made me more curious.
International Kallah created an environment where asking questions wasn’t discouraged, it was celebrated. I realized that Judaism isn’t about having every answer memorized. It’s about embracing a lifelong journey of learning, listening, and growing. Hearing how others connected with their faith encouraged me to think more intentionally about what being Jewish means to me and how I want to continue building that relationship in my own life.
One of the greatest lessons I took away is that my Jewish identity is constantly evolving. It is shaped by the people we meet, the conversations we have, and the experiences we choose to embrace. International Kallah reminded me that growth doesn’t always come from certainty. Sometimes it comes from being willing to wonder.
As I returned home, I didn’t bring back a single definition of what it means to be Jewish. Instead, I brought back a deeper appreciation for the diversity of our community, a renewed curiosity to keep learning, and the confidence to continue exploring my own Jewish journey. For that, International Kallah will always hold a special place in my heart.
