As a picky eater, I could never eat falafel, shakshuka, or anything that has a sauce. I hope this will help all the picky eaters out there find great Israeli food to eat! Here are my top five Israeli foods/snacks for picky eaters like me:

  1. Schnitzel. This is more German than anything, but it is always at a Pita Post somewhere, and it’s definitely in Israel. Schnitzel is, in summary, a fat chicken finger with lighter breading and great seasoning. You can get it with anything on it, as it comes in a sandwich typically.
  2. Chocolate Babka. This sweet breaded treat filled with chocolate is much sweeter and tastier than pistachio halva (which my mom gets). It is this crunchy, cakey delight that always brings me joy, especially when it is one from Breads Bakery in New York City.
  3. Israeli chocolate balls. Brought to America from Shinshinim across the world, this chocolate-graham cracker mixture is dipped into toppings like sprinkles, chocolate chips, etc., which tastes amazing.  It is a super simple recipe that anyone can make for a quick sweet treat!
  4. Matzo Fry. Matzo fry is one of my favorite meals to make for breakfast over Passover. My teachers at Hillel Day School taught me how to make it, and now it is my lifeline during the Passover holiday. It is literally scrambled eggs with matzah pieces in it. I also love to add some extra seasoning on it too!
  5. Bamba is a delicious Israeli snack. Think of it like Cheetos, except with peanut butter instead. It is absolutely delicious and hopefully can be found at stores near you!

Here are some links and recipes on all the food mentioned:
