Chelsea Article

One year ago, I went to CLTC and experienced the best two weeks of my summer. During mock chapter elections, I decided to run for N’siah. At the time, I was already serving as my chapter’s N’siah, but I wanted to challenge myself and learn more. I ran against 4 other girls, feeling confident and excited. Then the moment came: “Is there a question in the house? Is there a N’siah in the house? Yes! And it’s…” not Chelsea Goldfarb.

It didn’t go exactly like that, but that’s what it felt like. At that moment, it was like I had completely failed. I was sitting on a bench, upset, when my friend Benz came over and started giving me a speech. The one about not giving up, the kind I had heard a million times before. But he said something different, something I had never heard before: a word called בשערט (besheret), meaning everything happens for a reason.

He told me that instead of being upset, I should keep pushing forward. Failure after failure, win after win—even the moments when nothing seems to be happening—are all pushing me in the direction I’m meant to go. So I carried that mindset with me for the rest of CLTC. Because of it, I made over 100 new best friends, created some of the most meaningful memories, and learned lessons that I’ll carry with me forever.

But בשערט didn’t stay at CLTC; it stayed with me throughout the entire year. When coordinating a convention, I got the opportunity to center my separates around this idea. Each BBG wrote down something in their life they were struggling with or trying to control. They folded those papers and placed them into a small keychain bottle to keep on their lanyards; a reminder that while our worries are always with us, we don’t have to control everything. Sometimes, we just have to trust that things are unfolding the way they’re meant to.

Now, I’m heading to Full Perlman in two weeks. Even though it’s scary, and even though I don’t know exactly what to expect, I know it will all be okay because I carry בשערט with me always. Literally, on a necklace I wear every day, but also in the way I think and grow.

So this is YOUR reminder: don’t overthink everything. Let things go. Trust the process. And always remember בשערט.
