Top Ten Things I’ve Learned From Starting My Chapter
As we come to the end of the term, here are the top ten things I wish I knew when serving on my chapter's first board!
10. Events don't always have the best turnout — don't let it discourage you
9. You can make a great program out of very few supplies/resources
8. APPLY FOR GAMECHANGER GRANTS
7. Build connections and siblinghood early — people will be more excited and willing to come to programs if they have friends already
6. Recruitment is important, but retention is VITAL — don't just rely on prospects and new members to come to meetings. Show consistent members that they are appreciated
5. New members ARE looking up to you, even if it feels like they aren't — always show up as your best self and represent the ideals that BBYO is built upon
4. Fundraisers and community service are SO SO important for a chapter, even if they aren't the most fun
3. Sometimes the best ideas do not work out — just keep trying
2. A good board makes a good chapter
1. You will come out a better leader and person
