What does BBYO even mean to me? To be honest, sometimes I still struggle with the answer to that. If I really had to decide, only one thing comes to mind – everything. BBYO means everything to me.

On May 18th 2025, I ran for LOR’s 46th Regional S’ganit and was thrown into a life I had never expected. As a young freshman with a small group of friends in my chapter but a huge heart of passion, I had never expected to win. Who would vote for someone they’d never heard of, let alone someone who lived hours away? But nonetheless, there I was, officially elected as LOR’s 46th Regional S’ganit. And that was the day it all changed. That was the first day of the best year of my life.

A year later, I am now a few days away from being installed as LOR’s 47th Regional N’siah, and I simply am overjoyed. I could never have imagined what this year would mean for me. From meeting people who became my brothers and sisters, to finding love for Jewish study, to seeing BBGs across the region grow into incredible leaders.

I’ll be honest, before taking on a regional board position, I was pretty unaware of what this year had in store for me. I was not very integrated into the region and was worried I wouldn’t be able to lead cheers, traditions, business meetings, etc. However, as soon as that transition meeting came around, I was ready. I knew it would be a challenge, but I was going to learn everything and lead the region in the best way possible.

So, here’s my recipe for BBYO:

  1. An inspiration
Find a role model, learn from them. Pay attention to those coming before you. They’ll inspire you and teach you what it means to lead.
  2. Vision for the Movement
Make your vision. What do you dream of seeing in your Region and across the globe? How are you as a leader going to make it a reality?
  3. Love for the traditions
Participate in every single tradition. Learn the ins and outs. Put your heart and soul into every cheer you scream and every Birkat you lead.

  4. Enthusiasm, positivity
Show your region that you bring positivity to the atmosphere. Be hype, join in, talk to everyone. Your enthusiasm lights up the room and people look forward to seeing it.

  5. Member-first mindset
The members are the core. Put them first, teach them everything, laugh with them, and be there for them. You’ll see your impact in no time.

So, Lake Ontario Region, I’m finally ready. I cannot wait to give everything I have into being your Regional N’siah.

Submitted with undying love for Mishpacha BBYO #5173, beginnings and adventures, leadership and traditions, Lake Ontario Region #36, and the International Order of the B’nai B’rith Girls, I forever remain Shani, a prouder than proud 47th Regional N’siah.
