Choosing Hope
October 7th, 2023. A morning that changed my life, my country, and the Jewish people forever.
I woke up to sirens, fear, and uncertainty. My dad was called to military reserve duty, and suddenly, I didn’t know when I would see him again. For months, shelters became part of our daily lives, while we waited for news about those who had been taken hostage, those who were missing, and those whose lives had been lost.
As a young Jewish Israeli, I experienced fear I had never known before. However, I also witnessed something I will never forget.
The strength of people who refuse to give up on one another.
“עַם לְבָדָד יִשְׁכֹּן”
“A people that dwells apart.”
Yet even when we felt alone, we discovered just how connected we all truly were.
In the days that followed, something extraordinary emerged from the darkness.
People opened their homes to evacuated families. Volunteers prepared meals, collected donations, supported soldiers, and helped reviving communities. Young people stepped forward, determined to make a difference.
In moments when everything felt uncertain, acts of kindness reminded us that even the smallest gesture can bring light into someone’s darkest moments.
“אַל תִּירָא כִּי עִמְּךָ אָנִי”
“Do not fear, for I am with you.”
And that is exactly what our communities reminded each other:
You are not alone.
From Israel to Jewish communities around the world, we stood tall together, supported one another, and turned our pain into purpose.
But unity is not just something we feel. It is something we choose to create.
Reach out. Volunteer. Share a story. Support someone who needs you.
Because hope doesn’t simply appear. We build it, together.
Three years later, October 7th remains part of who we are. We carry the memories of those we lost, the stories of those who survived, and the responsibility to keep their voices alive.
But our story does not end with tragedy.
“אוֹר זָרֻעַ לַצַּדִּיק וּלְיִשְׁרֵי לֵב שִׂמְחָה”
“Light is sown for the righteous, and joy for the upright in heart.”
As a proud Jewish Israeli, I choose to carry both remembrance and hope.
Hope for healing. Hope for peace. Hope for a future where our communities can grow, celebrate, and thrive together.
We cannot change what happened on October 7th. But we can choose what we do with the responsibility it left us.
Let us turn remembrance into action, pain into purpose, and hope into joy.
For our greatest strength has always been each other.
Through Hope Comes Joy.

Standing Together
October 7 taught me that even in our darkest moments, we find strength in standing together as one people.

As a young Israeli who woke up to sirens on October 7, I reflect on the fear, resilience, and hope that emerged when our communities chose to stand together.
