Here are some of my favorite traditional foods from Argentina:

Dulce de Leche: Dulce de leche is a thick sweet sauce, which is often called caramel in other countries, but it's way better—trust me. There's nothing quite like it.

Asado: You are probably thinking this is a normal steak, but it’s not. Asado is Argentinian barbacue and the flavors and the preparation are unique to Argentina.

Empanadas: Most people know what an empanada is, but in case you don’t, an empanada is a thin dough filled generally with beef. Empanadas can also be prepared with cheese, ham, peppers, and much more. You'll smile after every bite of one.

Milanesa: This is one of my favorites. A milanesa is meat covered with breadcrums. It can be fried or baked.

Locro: this is the typical food that is eaten every 25th of May, to celebrate the day of Revolucion de Mayo. Locro is a vegetable stew.

Chimichurri: Chimichurri is a strongly seasoned sauce which contains parsley, oregano, garlic, vinegar, ground chili, oil and a pinch of salt. It's a great sauce match for asado.

Alfajores: This is the best sweet treat. Alfajores is two sugar cookies with a spread of dulce de leech in between. Alfajores are sometimes covered with chocolate. Does it get any better?

Pastafrola: This is a kind of pastry, made from dough and quince.

Maté: Although this is not a food, it can’t be left out of this list. Maté is a typical Argentinian drink. It is hot water in a kind of glass with herbs in it. It can be unsweetened or sweetened.

Hungry yet? I am. Look out for these dishes next time you're out or, even better, come pay us a visit in Buenos Aires!
