As KMR’s regional Sh’liganit (Sh’licha and S’ganit), I was lucky enough to be able to plan this year’s Global Shabbat alongside my counterpart, Zev Schreiber, the regional S’gan. Our vision for the event was “Shabbat Around the World.” Through a game of “Guess That Country,” we learned about different countries’ characteristics and Jewish populations. To accompany our program, we received thirteen videos from teens from thirteen different countries discussing their favorite Shabbat foods and traditions they keep with their families or BBYO communities. Despite being physically far apart, this project showed that our global Jewish community is uniquely united as one.
