As I reflect on the theme of Global Shabbat, "From Strength to Strength," I realize how much it truly means to me as a member of BBYO and AZA. This is more than just a catchy phrase; it’s a reminder of how we, as a community, grow and support each other through the challenges life presents and how, if you are ever set back in anything, you have the ability to come back bigger, better, and stronger.

Global Shabbat is one of BBYO’s unique traditions. It is an opportunity for us to come together as a community, no matter where we are in the world. It reminds us that we are part of a larger movement, bound by our shared values and experiences. In a world that often feels divided on almost everything, this collective moment allows us to pause and reflect on our individual and communal strengths.

What initially drew me into BBYO was the sense of community. At first, when I joined BBYO, I dreaded attending events. I kept coming back because my mom encouraged me, telling me I would find my place. I listened to her and eventually formed meaningful connections and friendships that have blossomed into some of my closest relationships today. When we come together for Global Shabbat, we are observing our weekly tradition, but we are also reinforcing the bonds that connect us all. Whether it's through hanging out at conventions, holding a board position, or just being at events, we create a space where everyone can thrive.

The theme "From Strength to Strength" also inspires us to celebrate our progress as a Jewish people. Each of us has faced unique challenges with being Jewish, but what unites us is our ability to rise up, our ability to adapt, and our ability to keep moving forward. The resilience we demonstrate as a community in overcoming obstacles not only strengthens our individual identities but also strengthens our community as a whole. Global Shabbat reminds us that we have a rich history of resilience. We were strong in the past, we are strong in the present, and we will continue to be strong in the face of future challenges.
