Finding Strength in My Community
As Jewish teens, we must engage in Jewish life because it offers a needed community and an irreplaceable network of support, connection, and resilience. For as long as I can remember, Jewish values have emphasized the importance of kehillah—community, and I have always felt that being a part of a community is my favorite part of being Jewish. Especially now, with all of the anti-semitism, my community is a source of strength, grounding me in our shared culture and history.
Engaging in anything your community has to offer, whether educational or cultural pursuits, keeps us connected to Jewish knowledge, connecting generation to generation as we explore what Judaism means today. Keeping traditions like Shabbat, whether through synagogue services or Shabbat dinners, strengthens our Jewish identity and connects us with centuries-old traditions.
Some of the most important Jewish values to me are Tikkun Olam—repairing the world—and Chesed—kindness. These values have taught me that every action we take matters and that when we speak up together, we have the power to create real change. The Jewish community isn’t just a part of my life; it’s where I’ve found my voice and my values. By actively engaging in our shared traditions and values, we not only honor our past but also help to create a brighter future.
