Just two years ago, I had no idea what BBYO was. Who would have thought that now I’m a part of the board of a pluralistic Jewish teen organization operating in over 62 countries, offering countless youth leadership opportunities?

My first encounter with BBYO was at the 2022 kick-off, where I had no idea what it was or what I was getting into. I just signed up for dinner with many members of the Jewish community in my city, simply there to hang out. For the rest of the term, I have to admit, I never fully grasped what it was all about until IC came around. Two of my best friends attended and shared the experience with me. I was amazed—I couldn’t believe that an international organization like this existed and offered so many opportunities, but still, that was all I knew.

Then came the 2023 kick-off, the turning point. Two of my friends were on the Barcelona board and invited me to the first event of the term. I went with no enthusiasm and even less expectation. I arrived and immediately felt so comfortable and secure that I didn’t want to leave. I felt a unique connection. Surrounded by teens my age, the board excitedly described upcoming events and conventions. It was on this day, October 28, 2023, that I knew I wanted to be a part of this.

From there, I participated in every event I could, attended the national convention, and learned so many incredible and special things that I now use in my daily life. At the National Convention, I ran for Morah of Barcelona and was elected, which is one of my most special days. All my effort and dedication had been rewarded.

And here I am today, as Morah of Barcelona, leading chapter events and participating in everything I can to pass on and teach what I once received.
