About Volunteer Israel

After the October 7 attacks, Israelis have united around a collective volunteering effort in support of the displaced border communities. Teens will get hands-on experience helping the people in these communities through a series of meaningful service opportunities. Stand in solidarity with Israel by helping them renew what was lost and reminding Israelis that we are a global Jewish community.

How is Volunteer Israel Different?

Unlike our other Israel travel programs, Volunteer Israel gives teens a way to directly impact Israeli communities affected by the October 7 attacks. A majority of our time will be spent participating in service projects. This experience is open to all teens, but will be less focused on touring and more on the impact we can make.

Service at the Core—Dedicate 4–6 hours each day to volunteer work, engaging directly with communities in need and contributing to their restoration and rebuilding efforts. Whether it's packaging food and clothing for displaced communities with organizations like Latet, preparing special meals for active-duty IDF soldiers through initiatives like Pantry Packers, or assisting in the harvest and distribution of crops at food banks such as Leket, your efforts will be instrumental in providing tangible support where it's most needed.

Solidarity in Action—Bear witness to the resilience of border communities at the Gaza border and the site of the Nova Music Festival. Engage in meaningful discussions with political experts as they strategize the future of the region. Gain insight into Israel's healthcare system with a visit to Magen David Adom's national blood bank, where you'll witness firsthand the vital role of humanitarian aid.

Curated Exploration—Immerse yourself in the rich tapestry of Israeli culture and heritage. Celebrate a moving Shabbat in the historic city of Jerusalem, where tradition and modernity intersect. Experience the vibrant beach culture of Tel Aviv, pulsating with energy and diversity. Reconnect with the awe-inspiring beauty of the Negev Desert, where ancient landscapes offer a serene backdrop for reflection and discovery.

Trip Overview

We have provided the following trip overview to give you a better sense of this experience. The actual program may vary, and an itinerary will be distributed no later than two weeks before the program begins. Even after the itinerary is sent, adjustments may still be made in coordination with tour guides and the tour operator—both leading up to and during the program—based on local conditions.

Group Travel

Travel with confidence knowing that BBYO organizes supervised group flights to and from Israel. Our staff are present at departure airports to greet teens and help them feel welcome right away, and they accompany each group throughout the journey—both on arrival and on the return trip home. Tel Aviv

Experience the vibrant energy of Tel Aviv through meaningful service and cultural exploration. View the powerful “Walls of Hope” street art project in the Florentin neighborhood, and enjoy a group dinner in Jaffa. Volunteer with organizations such as Beerotiim Packing Warehouse and Pitchon Lev, which support Israel’s agricultural needs and help break the cycle of poverty. Continue your impact at Jaffa Institute and Save a Child’s Heart, working with children receiving life-saving treatment. Afterward, unwind with time along the Mediterranean Sea and enjoy gourmet Ethiopian cuisine while hearing from inspiring female founders.

Pick cherry tomatoes during an agricultural service project, and visit Hostages Square, where families continue to advocate for the safe return of loved ones. Embrace the lively spirit of the Nahalat Binyamin Street Festival and explore the Carmel Market for lunch.

Jerusalem

Enter the Old City through Zion Gate and walk through the Jewish Quarter to the Western Wall for personal reflection and the option to join in Kabbalat Shabbat prayers. Celebrate Shabbat over a festive dinner and participate in BBYO-led programming, time by the pool, and a teen-led exploration of the local area. Enjoy a creative group experience like a Guru Zuzu silent rave on Ben Yehuda Street.

Engage in a geopolitical seminar with a regional expert and take part in meaningful volunteer opportunities. Visit Mount Herzl National Cemetery to honor lives lost and prepare meals for soldiers through Our People. Shop and eat at Mahane Yehuda Market, then lend a hand at Pantry Packers and Tachlit, two local nonprofits supporting food security. Spend an evening enjoying a water activity in a park and hear a powerful testimony from a Nova Music Festival survivor.

Negev Desert

Deepen your volunteer experience with additional service rotations, ensuring everyone contributes meaningfully. Then, travel to Israel’s southern region for a unique desert adventure. Meet Bedouin Israelis who acted heroically on October 7, take in the stunning views near Tzin Canyon, and share a traditional poike pot dinner under the stars.

Support recovery efforts in communities along the Gaza border. Volunteer at Kibbutz Magan, help rebuild public spaces, and connect with displaced Israeli teens now rebuilding their lives. Visit the Nova Music Festival Memorial site for a moment of reflection. Prepare food for soldiers at Hamal Shel Revital, and explore Sderot, including its JNF bomb shelter playground, to better understand what daily life is like near the Gaza border. Conclude with a stop at the Kerem Shalom border crossing, the primary entry point for humanitarian aid into Gaza.

Wrap up your experience with a final round of volunteer activities. Then come together for swimming, reflection, and a closing dinner at Dekel Tel Aviv Country Club.
